The St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation (SVGFF) has completed the purchase of five acres of prime land at Cane Grove for its Home for Football.
The land cost EC$2.4 million and is funded under FIFA’s Forward Programme.
The “Home for Football Project” will include a full-size international Football Field, a Futsal facility and a Technical Centre designed to accommodate two football teams and officials.
President of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation, Carl Dickson said that the Home for Football Project has come at a time when football throughout the world was trying to cope with the coronavirus pandemic.
Dickson said: “We view this as a gift not only to the thousands of footballers, fans, and stakeholders of the sport here in St Vincent and the Grenadines but to the entire nation, as we celebrate our 42nd Anniversary of Independence.
“It has been a life-long dream for the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation over the years, and we are pleased that at last, a Home for Football is closer to reality.”
Dickson expressed appreciation to the government and other agencies for their unwavering support for Football over the years.
He added: “We have relied immensely on the resources of the state for many years, and we thank the various governments which have been partnering with us, and we are happy that we are in a position now to contribute significantly to the sporting infrastructure of the country”.
Dickson said that the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation was negotiating to access the funding for the project and promised that with the support of all stakeholders it would continue to develop all components of football in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
