Hunters across St. Vincent and the Grenadines are being reminded that it is currently illegal to hunt mammals, reptiles and birds as there is a moratorium on the 2021/22 Hunting Season.
The reminder came from Director of Forestry, Fitzgerald Providence, who said the Forestry Service is continuing to monitor the population of these animals, in the wake of April’s explosive volcanic eruption.
Mr. Providence said the recent volcanic eruption had a devastating impact on the forest and they are currently giving the wildlife time to recover.
Mr. Providence warned that any hunter who is caught breaking the moratorium can be arrested and charged and even imprisoned.
He said a patrol unit from the Forestry Service is continuing to monitor the situation, to ensure that hunters are complying with the moratorium.
