Jamaica could be forced to adjust next month’s Netball Tri-series following the reported withdrawal of South Africa from the tour.
Originally, the series was to feature the No 4 ranked Jamaica, 5th ranked Australians and 10th ranked Trinidad and Tobago from 9th October. However, negotiations between Netball South Africa and the Jamaica Netball Association (JNA) are said to have broken down due to Jamaica’s rising number of COVID-19 cases.
The JNA is expected to give an update on the situation in the next few weeks with a replacement team for South Africa as another possibility.
The series will be the first for the Jamaican netballers since the Netball World Cup in 2020. The team is expected to travel to England this month for a 3-match series against England.
Jamaica were scheduled to meet England in January of this year, but those plans were postponed because of then-existing COVID-19 travel restrictions. The team will be looking to increase its activities in the coming months in preparations for next year’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.
