After an absence of almost ten years, fast bowler, Ravi Rampaul has been recalled to the West Indies squad for this year’s ICC Twenty/20 Cricket World Cup from 17th October to 14th November in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Rampaul, now 36, last played a Twenty/20 International for West Indies in November 2015. He has emerged as the best fast bowler in the current Caribbean Premier League (CPL) in St Kitts and Nevis. He is currently the leading wicket-taker with 17 wickets in 8 matches at an average of 13 and an economy rate of 7.20.
All-rounder Roston Chase, who is uncapped in Twenty/20 Internationals has been selected after impressive performances in the CPL last year and this year. Off-spinner, Sunil Narine has been omitted, and all-rounder, Jason Holder, left-arm, leg-spinner, Akeal Hosein, batsman, Darren Bravo and fast bowler, Sheldon Cottrell are the reserves.
The West Indies Squad is Kieron Pollard (captain), Nicholas Pooran (vice-captain and wicket-keeper), Fabian Allen, Dwayne Bravo, Roston Chase, Andre Fletcher, Chris Gayle, Shimron Hetmyer, Evin Lewis, Obed McCoy, Ravi Rampaul, Andre Russell, Lendl Simmons, Oshane Thomas and Hayden Walsh Jr. with reserves Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Sheldon Cottrell, Darren Bravo.
The West Indies will begin their defence of the Cricket World Cup title against England on 23rd October.
