Vincentians are among thousands of young people in the Windward Islands, who are benefiting from a programme which is aimed at developing a more skilled and productive work force in the region.
The Skills for Youth Employment in the Caribbean or SKYE programme is a four-year technical/vocational education and training or TVET project.
The project is headquartered here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and those who register with the programme are offered financial support.
The Country Co-ordinator for the programme is Dwight Lewis, who explained that it is funded by the United Kingdom to the tune of 9.1-million pounds, and has three components.
Mr. Lewis said the first phase of the programme, which got underway in September last year, also involves training for working persons who skilled, but lack certification.
