St. Vincent and the Grenadines joins in commemorating International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women today November 25th.
The theme this year – Orange the World: Generation Equality Stands Against Rape – focuses on ending the culture that normalizes sexual violence and allows rape to continue.
The Executive Director of UN Women is calling on everyone to challenge this culture and the behaviours associated with rape, such as the trivializing of rape, victim-blaming, the objectification of women’s bodies, and the glamorization of violence.
The Executive Director said ending rape would signal a “far-reaching shift for societies worldwide.
On this International Day and over the 16 Days of Activism to End Gender-Based Violence (25 November to 10 December), the Secretary-General António Guterres is calling on everyone, from all walks of life, to speak out against sexual violence and to take the boldest stand yet against rape.
