The Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines has been called upon to put measures in place for Balliceaux to be made a Heritage Protected Area
The call was made by Tourism Consultant Vera Ann Brereton, during her Keynote Address at the opening of the Sixth International Garifuna Conference on Tuesday at Frenches House.
She said the Government should seek to acquire the 320-acre privately owned Island.
In the late 18th century, some five thousand Garifuna were taken to Balliceaux, after the death of Joseph Chatoyer, who was declared this country’s first National Hero on March 14, 2002.
