The Sixth International Garifuna Conference opened this morning at Frenches House under the theme: Exploring the Garifuna & Kalinago Heritage and Culture – Cultural Survival, Youth and Opportunities in Heritage Tourism.
The Garifuna Heritage Foundation is hosting the Conference in collaboration with the University of the West Indies Open Campus.
Delivering the Keynote Address at the opening ceremony, Tourism Consultant, Vera-Ann Brereton highlighted the opportunities and challenges in Heritage Tourism.
She said Heritage tourism can provide a range of options to enrich the visitor experience through observation and participation.
There were also addresses from Cultural Officer Anthony Theobalds; President of the Garifuna Heritage Foundation David Darkie Williams and Head of UWI Open Campus Deborah Dalrymple.
