An appeal has been made for adults across the country to desist from oppressing the youths.
This appeal was made by Consultant from the Centre for Human Development Limited in Trinidad and Tobago, Hanif Benjamin as they hosted a National Child Development and Adolescent Training Workshop here during the month of February.
The workshop was hosted by the Ministry of National Mobilization in collaboration with the OECS Commission in keeping with the objectives of the Juvenile Justice Reform Project, Phase Two, which relates to diversion, rehabilitation and reintegration.
Mr. Benjamin says adults oppress children all the time without knowing it and this is called Adultism.
He says when the youths are oppressed they then begin to rebel and find themselves on the wrong side of the law.
Mr. Benjamin notes that instead of oppressing the youths parents should try to get their children involved in more activities with them to build better bonds and relationships with the next generation.
