Epidemiologist, Dr. Jose Davy, said proper care must be taken when testing for Dengue fever to minimize the risk of receiving a false negative result.
Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne tropical disease caused by the dengue virus and symptoms typically begin three to fourteen days after infection.
Symptoms may include a high fever, headache, vomiting, muscle and joint pains, and a characteristic skin rash.
Dr. Davy explained that while potential victims may be eager to conduct early testing, it may take several days for the body to produce the antibodies necessary to ensure accurate results.
Dr. Davy said persons suspected of being infected with Dengue fever must be placed under the care of medical professionals.
