The Ministry of Education hosted a Writing and Performance Symposium at Frenches House today, as part of its ongoing effort to improve the standard of song-writing here, especially at the junior level.
The Symposium was designed to equip participants with the tools required for effective song writing and performance, with particular focus on the writing and performance of Calypso and Soca songs.
The activity was particularly intended for schools participating in the Junior Calypso and Soca competitions during the Vincy Mas festivities.
Former Music Officer in the Ministry of Education, Geoff Venner, said the programme was aimed at sensitizing students on the operations of the artistic industry.
Mr. Venner said the training helps to improve the quality of vocal performance and stage craft of young performers.
