The Inaugural Reading Competition of the Girl Guide Association of St Vincent and the Grenadines will be held here today at the Girl Guide Headquarters in Level Gardens.
The competition is being held to mark International Day of Peace which is being recognized across the globe today, and also forms part of the Association’s activities to recognize International Literacy Day and Orange Day in the month of September.
Today’s competition will be held under the theme Stop the Violence.
Six Girl Guides from Forms 1 and 2 across the Windward, Leeward and Kingstown/Grenadines Divisions will read messages promoting peace, non-violence and anti-crime positions during today’s competition.
All participating Girl Guides will receive a Peace Medal of St Vincent and the Grenadines and the top three participants will receive special awards.
The Girl Guide Association says it remains committed to strengthening the ideals of peace, within local communities and hopes to make this event a bi-ennial one.
Today’s event is scheduled to begin at 3:30pm.
