Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Camillo Gonsalves, has indicated that the Climate Resilience Levy which was announced in the 2018 National Budget, is now in effect.
Minister Gonsalves had announced in his Budget Address in February, that the Levy of eight EC-dollars per night, would be paid by all stay-over visitors in Hotels, Apartments and Short-term Rentals with effect from May 1st.
Responding to a question at a News Conference last week, the Finance Minister explained that the Levy is in effect, but the Department of Inland Revenue is still working out the logistics of registering and collecting payment from the relevant persons.
He however noted that some of the Hotel Owners had complained that not all persons who rent accommodation for visitors are paying the levy.
