An appeal has been made here for Vincentians to make a greater effort to re-use plastic bags, as part of the wider national effort to preserve the natural environment.
Director of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Preservation Fund, Louise Mitchell made the call, following the observation of Earth Day yesterday Sunday April 22nd.
This year, the Earth Day Network (EDN) focused on ending plastic pollution, noting that discarded plastic objects are a growing problem of global proportions.
Ms Mitchell told NBC News, the problem could be alleviated, if more persons re-use their plastic shopping bags; and she noted that there are initiatives in place which reward people for re-using plastic bags.
Ms Mitchell also appealed to people to desist from using straws, which also have a negative impacts on the environment.
