The Ministry of Social Development has appealed for a greater level of support for persons who are trying to earn a living, after serving time in prison.
The appeal came from Probation Officer assigned to the Diversion Unit, Fayan Ambris, during the On the Beat program aired on NBC Radio, which focused on aspects of the OECS Juvenile Justice Reform Program (JJRP).
Mrs. Ambris said very often, when people leave prison they are ridiculed and cannot find jobs. She said this leads to repeat offenders.
Meanwhile Focal Point for the OECS Juvenile Justice Reform Program, Lafluer Quammie Harry noted that poverty can force young people to get involved in criminal activity.
