The National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) will from tomorrow April 23rd, host a week of activities – to commemorate the 39 years since the last eruption of the La Soufriere Volcano.
Friday April 13TH marked 39 years since the 1979 eruption of the volcano here on mainland St. Vincent.
The week of activities will be conducted in collaboration with the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre with support from the Soufriere Monitoring Unit, the Forestry Division and the Strengthening Resilience in Volcanic Areas (STREVA) Project of the University of East Anglia (UK).
Volcano Awareness Week as it has been coined – aims to raise awareness of the risk and science associated with the La Soufriere Volcano.
The activities will culminate on April 27th 2018.
