An appeal has been made for all Vincentians to develop content for the internet which will aid in boosting the nation’s digital presence in the world.
This appeal was made by a number of speakers during yesterday’s ceremony which was held for the signing of two agreements between Telecommunications providers FLOW and Digicel for the operationalization of the Local Internet Exchange Point (IXP).
The primary purpose of the IXP is to allow networks to interconnect directly, via the exchange, rather than through one or more third-party networks.
Delivering remarks at the ceremony which was hosted by the National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (NTRC), General Manager of FLOW, Wayne Hull says there are only about three hundred IXP’s throughout the world and it is a great achievement for SVG to be establishing its own IXP because this will enhance how Vincentians access the internet.
He says however that local businesses and other digital content developers and providers must now take full advantage of the IXP to further develop St. Vincent and the Grenadines during the current technological age.
