Members of the 65-member delegation made up of representatives of Garifuna Organizations from Belize, Guatemala, Nicaragua and the USA, are now in the state for a special pilgrimage.
The visit is being held to mark the 220th anniversary of the attempted genocide, forced migration and subsequent resettlement of the Garifuna People to countries in Central America.
The Garifuna visitors are being hosted by the Regional Integration and Diaspora Unit, and the theme for the visit is: Garifuna Diaspora: United in Healing
Co-ordinator of the Pilgrimage, Sylvia Sampson-Cayetano, said following the Church Service and official opening tomorrow, the Garifuna delegation will spend the weekend praying and reflecting, starting on Friday with visits to various communities.
On Saturday the Garifuna delegation will continue their Pilgrimage to Balliceaux and on Sunday they will be visiting the communities of Greiggs and Mesopotamia, where they will be involved in singing drumming and praying.
