A team from the Eastern Caribbean Telecommunications Authority (ECTEL) will be in St. Vincent and the Grenadines this week, on the final leg of a regional road show, focusing on the new draft Electronic Communications Bill.
The new legislation has been developed by ECTEL to provide new tools to manage the electronic communications sector.
While here, the team will host a number of public education activities, including presentations and discussions on the new legislation, and its accompanying new regulations.
On Wednesday, the ECTEL team will make a presentation to the Members of Cabinet, and on Thursday, May 18th, similar presentations will be made to Civil Society Organizations, Parliamentarians and Telecommunications Service Providers.
The Electronic Communications Bill will replace the Telecommunications Act and the new regulations address issues such as access to consumer protection, retail pricing, and guidelines on market access.
The road show is a collaborative effort of ECTEL and the National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (NTRC) of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
This week’s activities coincide with World Telecommunications and Information Society Day, which will be observed on Wednesday May 17, under the theme: ‘Big Data for Big Impact’.
