The Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines is taking steps to improve the efficiency this country’s hydroelectric systems, in a bid to enhance the delivery of electricity here.
Prime Minister, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves stated this, as he addressed a ceremony held here last week to mark the launch of CARICOM Energy Month.
CARICOM Energy Month is aimed at raising awareness of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency.
The Prime Minster said work has already begun on restoring and upgrading the hydroelectric systems, which provide a cheaper source of energy than diesel.
Some of the activities planned to observe the month include an Essay Competition for Secondary Schools; visits to Secondary and Tertiary Level Institutions to promote Renewable Energy; School visits to the Vinlec Hydro and Photovoltaic Power Plants; and the launch of the Photovoltaic system at the Belle Isle Correctional Institution.
