Prime Minister, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has announced that the Kingstown Fish Market will be operating under new management in the New Year.
During a ceremony held at the Calliaqua Fisheries Complex yesterday, the Prime Minister made the announcement, to mark the handing over of a quantity of equipment and machinery from the Government of Japan.
Addressing the event, Dr. Gonsalves said the move is being made as part of a thrust to privatize the local Fisheries Centres. The management has been transferred to the Input Warehouse which he said has very good management and they will expand in other areas to have the market properly operated.
The Fisheries Equipment and Machinery was handed over as part of a Grant Aid Project which is aimed at improving the quality of fish and fish products landed, and to easing the fishing pressure in the coastal waters of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
