St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ new Permanent Representative to the Organisation of American States, OAS, Lou-Ann Gilchrist, has presented her credentials to OAS Secretary General Luis Almagro.
The (OAS) said the presentation took place on Wednesday during a ceremony at OAS headquarters in Washington.
The Organisation said Ambassador Gilchrist highlighted the continued commitment of St. Vincent and the Grenadines to the OAS and its guiding principles.
According to the OAS, Ambassador Gilchrist said since St. Vincent and the Grenadines became a member of the OAS, in 1981, only two years after the nation obtained independence from Great Britain, it has been committed to promoting and strengthening the four main pillars and principles enshrined in the OAS Charter.
The new Ambassador gave the assurance of this country’s unwavering commitment to integral and sustainable development, democracy and governance, multi-dimensional security and the protection of human rights.
In welcoming the new envoy, OAS Secretary General Luis Almagro recognized her broad experience as an educator and leader, and her familiarity with areas of the work of the OAS, particularly the Inter-American Council of Integral Development. He expressed confidence that the expertise of the new Ambassador would be beneficial to some of the innovative programs in in which the CIDI is involved.
