St. Vincent and the Grenadines Government unanimously voted in parliament on Friday to pass the Cybercrime Bill.
Civil society and opposition parties had strongly voiced their concerns over the bill which they argued could curb freedom of expression.
However, Prime Minister, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said that the Bill offers protection for a range of matters.
Under the Bill, if a person is found guilty of harassment by electronic communication, he or she can receive a jail sentence of one (1) year or fined $25,000.00, or both.
