Trade Unionists throughout the region have emphasized the need for a clear separation between politics and the management of the public service in the Caribbean region.
President of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Public Service Union Elroy Boucher, said the public service must operate on the principles as established by international labor conventions.
Additionally he said there is need for a greater level of fairness within the public service.
Meanwhile, First Vice President of the Barbados National Union of Public Workers, Joyann Innis, said the issue of political intervention in the public service is a cause for concern at the regional level.
Miss Innis said Barbadian authorities have been putting measures in place to minimize the impact of political involvement in the management of the public service.
