St. Lucia has a new Prime Minister. The main Opposition United Workers Party (UWP) led by Allen Chastanet won Monday’s general election, preventing Dr. Kenny Anthony, leader of the St Lucia Labour Party (SLP) from gaining a second consecutive term in office.
The UWP secured 11 of the 17 constituency seats to win the elections.
Speaking to the local Media after the results were announced last evening, Mr. Chastanet expressed thanks to God and all those who supported his campaign.
Mr. Chastanet said the party will not spend too much time celebrating, as there are more difficult things to achieve within the country.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has extended congratulations to the UWP. He said he is looking forward to working along with the new Prime Minister of St. Lucia.
