The second in a series of five Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) Radio Training Sessions for fishermen and persons involved in maritime activities takes place here next week.
The National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (NTRC) is hosting the sessions in collaboration with the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Coast Guard Services and the Fisheries Division.
The training session will advise fishermen of the new GMDSS system which was implemented by the NTRC to facilitate emergency and non-emergency communications at sea.
Additionally the training will demonstrate how to use the GMDSS radios which have the necessary features that allow you to communicate with the GMDSS system.
The Training takes place on Tuesday 31st May, 2016 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at the Calliaqua Anglican School.
All fishermen and persons involved in maritime activities in and around Calliaqua are urged to register for the training session by May 30, 2016.
Registration forms are available at the NTRC’s Office on the 2nd Floor of the NIS building in Kingstown, SVG Coast Guard Services in Calliaqua, and the Fisheries Division in Kingstown.
