A National Project entitled “Capacity Building for Conservation of Sea Turtles in St. Vincent and the Grenadines has been launched here.
The Project is being spearheaded by the National Parks, Rivers and Beaches Authority in collaboration with the Fisheries Division and is being funded by the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Preservation Fund.
Its overall goal is to increase awareness and build capacity at a Community and national level in Marine Turtle Conservation.
Speaking at the launch of the project on Monday, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Saboto Caesar said his Ministry is committed to the cause of conservation.
Meanwhile, Fisheries Officer, Chris Isaacs expressed gratitude to the SVG Preservation Fund for its contribution of seven thousand dollars to the Project.
Under the project several programs are being held to provide training in the basics of sea turtle biology, monitoring, data collection, documentation and the analysis of sea turtle nesting activities.
Sessions have already been held in Mustique, Kingstown, Sandy Bay and Barrouallie.
The next workshop will be held in today at the Colonaire Community Center.
