Vincentian Calypsonian Chico-B has been crowned Calypso Monarch in Virgin Gorda.
Competing among five calypsonians, Chico-B, a newcomer, also won best stage performance, best musical arrangement, best humorous performance and best lyrics.
The 2016 Calypso Monarch sang “Thanks BVI” and “Rum Pipe”.
After winning the competition, Chico-B said that hard work paid off and expressed his love for the BVI and its culture.
Chico-B said he intends to sell himself as an entertainer on VG.
The Calypso Monarch takes home four thousand dollars; first runner-up $3,000, second runner-up $2,000 and third runner-up $1,500.
First runner-up went to King Henry, second runner-up to Falco and third runner-up to Mighty Ley-Ley. The other participant was Mighty Reddo.
Virgin Gorda’s Easter Festival is being celebrated under the theme, ‘Celebrating 2016 with Class; A Festival of Pure Mass!’.
