A wide cross section of the Vincentian public are attending a Symposium today spearheaded by the Garifuna Heritage Foundation.
The Symposium is being held to coincide with activities to observe National Heritage and Heroes Month.
It has as its theme “Garifuna Diaspora Relationship as a Reflection of the Caribbean Indigenous Experience”.
In his remarks, President of the Garifuna Heritage Foundation David Williams said he is hoping that the participants would have a greater appreciation for the Garifuna Culture and Heritage.
Delivering the keynote address former UWI Lecturer Rawle Gibbons highlighted the importance of preserving the rich history of the Garifuna people.
A Panel Discussion is also being held today on Revisiting History – the Impact of the 1797 Expulsion of the Garifuna on the Development of St. Vincent and the Grenadines as a Nation State.
The Panelists are Historians Dr. Adrian Fraser; Curtis King and Dr. Cleve Scott.
