A ten-member team from Grand Island Nebraska in the United States, is scheduled to leave the state today following one week of missionary work with the Catholic Diocese of Kingstown.
The team, led by Father Mike McDermott includes persons who are skilled in medical, mental and/or pastoral care. They have been working closely with the St. Benedict’s Nursery and the Bread of Life in Georgetown.
A release from the Catholic Church said this is the team’s fifth trip to SVG but it is their third year of doing work with children and persons in need of assistance through the Carmelite Sisters located in Georgetown.
Some of the skilled persons on the team include, a Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Mental Health Counsellor, Registered Nurses and other ancillary persons to assist with the mission’s thrust of assistance.
Father McDermott who is the Pastor at the Resurrection Catholic Church in Nebraska said his team has been focusing on “Making God’s healing presence present.”
