Victims of sexual assault have been urged not to be afraid to come forward and report the matter to the Police.
The appeal came from Corporal Karla Timm of the Major Crimes Unit of the Police Force during the On the Beat programme aired on NBC Radio Monday night.
Corporal Timm said when a sexual assault is reported, the Police Officer taking the report is required to rebuild the victim’s confidence and put them at ease, while ensuring they get adequate information to solve the crime.
She however said, that the Police face major hurdles when it comes to resolving cases of sexual assault.
She said victims sometimes fail to report sexual assaults and rape, because they think they might be judged, shamed and blamed.
