The rehabilitated Caratal Bridge at Georgetown was officially opened on Monday October 26th, 2015, at a ceremony hosted by the Ministry of Transport, Works, Urban Development and Local Government
The Caratal Bridge was among the many critical areas of infrastructure that were damaged during the December 2013, Christmas Eve trough system.
The project was funded by the Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines from the proceeds of a loan facilitated by the Bank of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The contract was valued at 2-million, 999-thousand, 752-dollars and 86-cents and was executed by Bailey Contractors.
Delivering remarks at the ceremony, Brent Bailey, the Chief Engineer in the Ministry of Transport and Works, outlined the challenges encountered in executing the project, especially in relation to the design.
Mr. Bailey explained that because the new bridge is higher than the previous one, special measures had to be taken to ensure proper drainage.
