The Ministry of Transport and Works says work is progressing smoothly on the Grand Sable Bridge at Mount Young in Georgetown and work on the Byera Bridge will commence soon.
Chief Engineer in the Ministry of Transport and Works, Brent Bailey says work is currently ongoing on the Grand Sable River Bypass where they are preparing to install a Bailey Bridge.
He says once the bypass bridge is completed they will close the road to facilitate reconstruction of the bridge which is now being used.
Mr. Bailey says the new bridge is going to be higher and wider than the current Bridge to ensure that a dam is not created when the river flows heavily during inclement weather.
