Dr.Ralph Gonsalves made the statement yesterday while addressing the audience at a ceremony put on by the National Insurance Services (NIS) to honor pensioners.
Public Assistance is paid out to senior citizens who did not make enough contributions to the NIS to benefit from the minimum pension. The last increase in the public assistance benefit was four years ago.
The Prime Minister said that an increase in public assistance means that there should also be an increase in the minimum pension payout.
