This Friday, October 16th is being observed globally as World Food Day (WFD). A day aimed at raising global awareness about hunger challenges and encourages people worldwide, to take action in the fight against hunger.
This year’s topic for WFD “Social Protection and Agriculture-breaking the cycle of rural poverty” aims to highlight the role of social protection in the reduction of food insecurity.
Chairman of the WFD Committee, Cornelius Richards in giving a presentation at a National Symposium yesterday stated that social protection is a viable option for stimulating agricultural production and local economic activity.
He added that farmers are the key actors in the process of fighting hunger and finding remedies that address combating issues affecting food security.
