The Forestry Department in the Ministry of Agriculture is appealing to hunters throughout St. Vincent and the Grenadines to desist from hunting pregnant and young animals.
The advice comes from Forestry Officer with responsibility for Law Compliance, Bradford Latham, as persons utilize the open season for several wildlife species, including the Manicou, Agouti and Iguana.
The season officially commenced today and will run through January 31st, 2016.
Mr. Latham said this practice is harmful and may result in a drastic reduction in the population of the various species.
Mr. Latham said it is important that hunters are able to distinguish between what can and cannot be hunted.
