The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and the Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU) are collaborating to limit the environmental risks posed to the Caribbean region by the improper disposal of electronics.
The Electronic Waste (E-Waste) project study was completed late last month.
The project highlights the absence of policies in relation to the disposal of electronic waste.
It found that although there are a few programmes that assist in collection of E-Waste, there are no real standards processes specifically targeted at treating it.
The study recommends putting in place action plans to facilitate E-Waste management in the region. Such as an assessment of the volume of E-Waste generated at local and regional level; and regional coordination to establish hubs for storing, treating and transporting e-waste.
