Addressing stakeholders in the security sector yesderday, Mikami said that increasing rates of crime and violence in the Caribbean has eroded socioeconomic development opportunities.
She stated that there is an increased need for a multi sectoral approach focussed on prevention and empowerment in order to successfully reduce the rate of crime and violence in the region.
She however stated that citizen security should not solely be seen as a reduction in crime rate, but as a result of policy options which stem from a sustainable, participatory and multi-disciplinary strategy.
