Legislation will soon be in place here to govern occupational health and safety at the workplace.
This assurance came from Minister of Labour, Maxwell Charles, as he addressed the opening of a one-day Seminar, held here last week.
The forum was convened by the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Employers Federation, the Caribbean Congress of Labour (CCL) and the Caribbean Employers Confederation.
It was aimed at strengthening the capacity of Trade Unions to take advantage of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), signed with the European Union.
In his remarks, Minister Charles disclosed that steady progress is being made in drafting the legislation.
Last week’s Seminar was designed to disseminate information and harness the support of the affiliate Trade Unions and Employer Organisations in an effort to maximize the impact of the project in individual territories as well as the region as a whole.
Participants are drawn from the Public Service Union (PSU), the Commercial, Technical and Allied Workers Union (CTAWU) and the Employers Federation.
