A call is being made for a greater level of awareness among Vincentians in an effort to improve the level of interaction between members of the community and persons with disabilities.
The call came from Training Director with Special Olympics, Terrence Davis, as he discussed issues affecting the disabled during NBC’s Face to Face programme on Monday September 21, 2015.
Mr. Davis is of the view that many persons react negatively to the disabled because of lack of understanding of their various conditions.
Meanwhile, National Director of Special Olympics, Janice McMaster, said this education thrust should commence at an early age within the education system.
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that nearly 650 million people, or 10% of the world population are moderately or severely disabled.
