The Land Distribution Programme initiated by the Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines moved one step further on September 14th, with the presentation of letters-of-offer to forty-one residents of Fancy.
The new owners will have an opportunity to purchase the lands at a cost of EC $0.50 per sq ft.
Delivering the feature address at the handing-over ceremony at the Fancy Government School, Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves re-stated the commitment of the Government to provide affordable housing to the population.
According to Dr. Gonsalves, reasonably priced housing of a minimum acceptable standard is a fundamental human right. The Prime Minister said the Government is committed to ensuring that the housing provided to Vincentians is of an acceptable standard.
Meanwhile, according to the Minister of Housing Montgomery Daniel, his Ministry has been very busy over the last few years, providing housing for persons who have been displaced by various weather events.
Minister Daniel said the affected families have been provided with housing free of cost, from the Government.
