The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Teacher’s Union (SVGTU) has resolved to take any action necessary to bring national, regional and international attention to a situation which it considers will have “grave implications for the quality of life” of teachers here.
In a release dated September 2, the Teachers Union noted that teachers have not had a salary increase for the past 4-5 years.
The organization stated that it has requested a payout from the Government of one month’s salary in lieu of a deferred salary increase.
This demand, it said, has not been met, and the Union is willing to take whatever action it determines is necessary to have the situation rectified.
The release stated that this decision was made at a meeting held at the Thomas Saunders’s Secondary School on September 2.
