National Coordinator of the Windward Islands Farmers Association (WINFA), Cozel Peters Fraser said farmers should stick to the required amount of chemicals which is stipulated for them to use on their farms.
She said while they are currently developing a Bio-fertilizer program for Bananas, they want to extend this program to other fruits and vegetables as part of the national push to reduce the use of harmful chemicals in farming.
Mrs. Peters Fraser said as they continue the push for the reduction in the use of chemicals, more farmers should pursue organic farming which has significant positive benefits for the country.
She said this can be a very successful move for the country if all stakeholders get involved.
Mrs. Peters Fraser said she would also like to see a closer working relationship between the Government and Agricultural producer organizations to further embrace the critical role which Agriculture can play in National development.
