The Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines has launched the National Zero Hunger Challenge, a major initiative by the Food and Agriculture Organization to eradicate hunger by 2025.
Minister of Agriculture Saboto Caesar presented a Motion in Parliament this morning, which he says symbolizes the Government’s commitment to achieving zero hunger by 2025.
The Minister said the Government has made several targeted interventions to reduce general poverty. He provided statistics to show that hunger and under nourishment has significantly reduced over the years.
Parliamentary Representative for North Leeward Roland Patel Matthews supported the initiative.
The Zero Hunger Challenge was launched globally by the United Nations Secretary-General at the Rio+20 Conference on Sustainable Development in Brazil in June 2012.
The ZHC calls on world leaders to join forces to end hunger and achieve sustainable development.
