Three years after the Parrot Conservation Program was launched, the Forestry Department says it remains steadfast in its efforts to ensure the continued survival of the St. Vincent Parrot, the Amazona Guildingi.
Senior Forestry Supervisor, Cornelius Richards said the species has rebounded fairly well with the latest census figures indicating a local parrot population of about 850.
As part of the conservation programme, Mr. Richards made mention that a number of the birds are being bred outside of their natural habitat.
The Parrot Conservation Program was officially launched in September 2012, in collaboration with the Association for the Conservation of Threatened Parrots.
