Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has emphasized the importance of Disaster Risk Reduction, noting that St. Vincent and the Grenadines is one of the most disaster-prone countries in the world.
He was speaking at this morning’s launch of a new Disaster Risk Reduction Program entitled “Community Resilience and Institutional Preparedness in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the Lesser Antilles facing Natural Hazards”
The program will be implemented by the SVG Red Cross Society in collaboration with the national Emergency management Agency (NEMO) and other State Agencies.
Addressing the launch, Dr. Gonsalves said the impact of climate change has greatly increased the risk of disasters.
Dr. Gonsalves said it is hoped that a global agreement will be reached at the Conference of Parties (COP) 2015 Paris Climate Conference to be held from November 30th to December 11th.
