The Ministry of Health has revealed that mothers who breastfeed their babies have a lower chance of getting pregnant before the child is six months old.
The statement was made by Acting Chief Nutritionist, Joyce Burgin, during the Face to Face programme aired on NBC Radio in observance of World Breastfeeding Week 2015, under the theme: ‘Breastfeeding and Work – Let’s make It Work’.
Miss Burgin said there are many advantages for mothers who breastfeed and she is encouraging mothers to Breastfeed exclusively up to six months.
She said Breast Milk and Breast Feeding also helps the mother and the baby to bond.
Miss Burgin said Breastfeeding also helps a mother to lose the weight she would have gained during pregnancy much faster, while ensuring financial savings and a healthier baby.
