There were victories for Hornets, Titans, Blazing Heat, Dragons, Duke East Blazers and Warriaz in last weekend’s matches of the Vita Malt Bequia Basketball Championship at the Clive Tannis Hard Court in Port Elizabeth.
In Under-16 Division matches, Hornets defeated Rockets 39-17. The leading scorer for Hornets was Augustine Pollard with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists, while Omario Louie led the way for Rockets with 10 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists.
Kelroy Durham with 14 points and 20 rebounds led the way for Titans as they eased past Hawks 21-15. The top scorer for Hawks was Darren John with 9 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists.
Dragons cruised past Titans 58-50. The leading scorer for Dragons was Jovanni Derrick with 42 points, 20 rebounds, while Kelroy Durham led the way for Titans with 44 points, 24 rebounds and 7 steals.
And, Jovanni Derrick hit a game high 25 points, 11 rebounds as Dragons won their second match defeating Hornets 42-40. Leading scorer for Hornets was Shamar Phillips with 15 points and 5 steals.
In the second Division, Blazing Heat had the better of Wizards 126-47. Top scorer for Blazing Heat was Vernell Phillips with a game high 31 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and Shian Farrell was the top scorer for Wizards with 15 points and 3 rebounds.
And in First Division matches, Duke powered past Warriaz 103-52. The leading scorer for Duke was Keithroy Lavia with 27 points and 5 assists, Jemuel Hutchins and Kerry Frederick were Warriaz’s top scorer with 13 points each.
East Blazers defeated The Generals 61-43. The leading scorer East Blazers was Kelan Edwards with 10 points, 2 assists, 3 steals, while The Generals leading scorer was Glenroy Charles with 13 points, 12 rebounds and 2 assists.
In other First Division matches, Keon Skinner hit a game high 27 points as Warriaz beat Wizards 64-53. The top scorer for Wizards was Orando Blugh with 23 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists.
East Blazers won from Duke 85-56. Leading the way for East Blazers was Elton Joseph with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists and Jonas King was the top scorer for Duke with 14 points, 17 rebounds.
