The Forestry Department is exploring market opportunities for the Blue Mahoe, which is widely produced in this country’s forests reserves.
The Blue Mahoe is a beautiful and durable timber that is widely used for cabinet making and also for making decorative objects such as picture frames, bowls and wood carvings.
The ‘blue’ refers to blue-green streaks in the polished wood, giving it a distinctive appearance.
Senior Forestry Supervisor, Cornelius Richards, said there is close to 200 acres of the specie which is currently harvestable.
