At a media briefing held at The NEMO Headquarters yesterday, Dr Richard Robinson, Director of the Seismic Centre at the University of the W.I told NBC Radio, that there is some evidence that large magnitude earthquakes can shake magma chambers in volcanoes.
In response to a question about the effects that the recent earthquakes might have had on the Kick Em Jenny volcano, which located underwater 8 km north of Grenada, Robinson said that the Seismic Centre is keeping an eye on the sub-marine volcano.
He added that while there is some evidence to suggest that volcanic eruptions in the world have been related to large scale earthquakes, it is difficult to pinpoint which event might have caused the effect.
